The CDCP is a federal program that covers many denture services for eligible Canadians. MyBite is a registered provider — your CDCP coverage works at MyBite clinics across Alberta and British Columbia. Below is what's covered, what's not, and how the fee gap works in our provinces.
What CDCP Covers
Denture services covered by the CDCP
Coverage depends on your AFNI tier (0%, 40%, or 60% patient share) and approval of pre-authorization where required.
Complete Dentures
Standard maxillary (upper) and mandibular (lower) dentures — covered once every 8 years (96 months).
Partial Dentures
Covered to replace one or more missing teeth. Almost always require pre-authorization to confirm medical necessity.
Immediate & Overdentures
Temporary dentures after extractions, or dentures fitted over remaining natural tooth roots.
Repairs, Relines, Rebases
Typical maintenance — covered once every 2 years.
Post-Insertion Care
Immediate dentures include a 3-month period of covered post-insertion adjustments.
Not Covered
Implant-supported dentures, implant placement, and complex/high-end denture options are excluded from CDCP.
How CDCP Pricing Works
The fee gap — what "100% coverage" actually means
A common misconception is that "100% coverage" means the dentures are free. In reality, the CDCP pays 100% of its own established fee schedule — which is often lower than the provincial fee guides used by denturists in Alberta and British Columbia. The difference between the two is called the fee gap, and it is paid by the patient.
Alberta Context
Alberta does not have a mandatory fee schedule, so prices vary widely between clinics. If your denturist charges the Alberta Dental Association (ADA) Guide rate of $1,200 for a service, but the CDCP fee is set at $1,000, you are responsible for the $200 difference — even if you're in the 100% coverage tier.
British Columbia Context
In BC, most providers follow the BC Dental Association or Denturists Association of BC fee guides. Same dynamic: if the CDCP's established rate is lower than the provincial guide, the patient pays the balance.

Pre-authorization & Frequency Limits
Most initial partial dentures require pre-authorization from Sun Life (the CDCP administrator) before treatment. You cannot replace a functional denture simply for aesthetic reasons — replacement must meet the 8-year rule or be clinically unserviceable.
Implants and the CDCP
As of 2026, dental implants and all implant-related procedures are generally excluded from the CDCP. The plan is designed for essential care. Implant placement, implant-supported crowns, and dentures that snap into implants are not currently funded. Traditional overdentures (sitting over natural tooth roots) may be considered with pre-authorization.
Alberta Transition Note
As of 2026, the Alberta government has expressed intent to transition toward a provincial dental model. Current CDCP members in Alberta generally maintain access to comparable coverage during these negotiations.
